Oh and today I weighed 206lbs. That's something else I'd like to record here!

On new beginnings..

This past week I moved. Since an unfortunate incident with the then-girlfriend which saw me fleeing Bristol as fast as humanly possible, I've been living in the Wiltshire countryside. Pretty, you might think, but inevitably dull for a man in his twenties. This wasn't made any easier when my place of work announced a 'restructuring' that would've sent me to Nottingham. In the end I chose to leave, and I start working for a new company next Monday.

So I moved - I've moved a lot over the last 7 years. Ever since I left Germany in '06 I've moved roughly twice a year. Every time I tell myself that *this* is the time I'll spend more than six months in one place, but it rarely transpires the way I'd hoped. I'm genuinely optimistic that this might be the exception. The new place is spacious, affordable, clean, tidy and, conveniently, 5 minutes up the road from the new office. I've settled in far quicker than I'd expected, too.

I've been running in neutral for a long time. I feel like I've focused very heavily on getting my career off the ground over the past 3 years, and now I find myself with a very good position at an international company. I've been very fortunate, and I think it's time to redress some of the balance I've lost by focusing on that.

I want to travel more. I have the means to go where I want and do what I want. I've never really seen the appeal in 3-week-long beach holidays in Tenerife (although I should try it once I suppose) - I'm far more interested in going somewhere fascinating and beautiful - Rome being a perfect example of somewhere I went 10 years ago and never forgot. I want to take more trips in my car - I could jump in the car on a Friday afternoon and be in Paris by midnight. Or Scotland. Or Silverstone. Why don't I do that?

I also want to do things like work my way through the '1001 Albums / Movies / Beers / Cars you must experience before you die'-style books. I think they might provide a really nice place to start for my adventures!
